This adventurous yet familiar interpretation of The Beatles’ iconic 1967 release that rocked the world represents a daring departure for The RHQ – a well-established jazz group. Brian Levy, Paul Brändle, Matt Adomeit and Rick Hollander, the new “Fab Four”, combine all their forces to re-imagine, what is often considered one of popular music’s highest achievements. Their arrangements ring true to the original recording we love yet sound fresh and new.
With a Little Help from My Friends, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, When I’m Sixty Four, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane and A Day in the Life are highlights of The RHQ’s 2021 tour repertoire.
The bulk of the arrangements have a part one and a part two. Likely part one includes Rick singing and playing steel drum, Paul strumming the baritone guitar, Matt at the mandolin and Brian playing flute. Part two brings to use the more traditional saxophone, guitar, bass and drums set up. Like The Beatles, The Rick Hollander Quartet creates with a wide variety of instruments.
In mid-March 2020 at the start of the global pandemic Rick, along with the rest of the world, was ordered to stay home. He seized those long hours as an opportunity to write these brand new arrangements. Although covering songs by the Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership is commonplace, re-envisioning them, as brought forth to you by The Rick Hollander Quartet, is not.
